Amy Granillo, Canine Nutrition Practitioner
Hello, I’m Amy. I’ve been in private practice for five years working with dog owners, commercial food companies, veterinarians, and other companion animal health care providers. I’m a multi-certified canine nutritionist in the first year of my doctoral program for Integrative and Functional Nutrition. I love dogs & helping people resolve a situation with their dog’s health through a correctly balanced diet or food therapy brings me great joy.
I formulate raw and cooked diets for healthy dogs of all ages, with a focused specialty in growth diets for puppies, particularly large and extra large breed puppies. One of the modalities that I work with is Eastern food therapy and I provide food therapy services for a handful of specific conditions. I work with a few commercial raw and cooked dog food companies each year on long term product formulation services and nutrition consulting. Part of what I do for commercial companies and other canine nutrition providers is diet spreadsheet creation and training, so a lot of the last couple of years has been spent in research and lab testing. I’ve also begun working with more and more veterinarian hospitals and companion animal health clinics both in person and online as businesses have shifted the way they operate during the past couple of years during the pandemic. Having a contracted canine nutrition practitioner has become easier for many versus high staff turnovers.
Another area of canine health that is a passion for me is herbalism. I was self-taught for a number of years and eventually entered into year-round direct mentored education in canine herbalism for nearly four years now. I formulate herbal and homeopathic protocols for clients and I have a small canine apothecary here in southern California.
I’m an accredited continuing professional development education provider and I developed and wrote a comprehensive university level credentialing program teaching canine nutrition, science-based diet formulation for dogs, and business. Students who successfully complete the program earn their credential as a certified canine nutrition professional (Cert.CNP). I get to teach aspiring canine nutritionists from all over the world and I love it!
I have spent a lot of my life volunteering in various ways from shelving books at the library to nonprofit leadership roles and in early 2022, I acquired the Raw Feeding Community (RFC) from its creator who wanted to retire and I turned it into a non-profit with free resources and access to licensed and credentialed animal nutrition professionals worldwide. I provide free nutrition counseling to dog owners through RFC and I volunteer as a peer reviewer with Elsevier Research Academy and the Journal of Molecular Biology.
Higher Formal Education- First year Integrative and Functional Nutrition doctoral student. Pre-Veterinary & Medical, Bachelor of Science (BS) with a Concentration in Canine Nutrition, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), California Southern University. I have a graduate certificate in Companion Animal Nutrition, a certificate in Canine Nutrition, two certificates of completion in Eastern Food Therapy, master certificates in Project Management and Government Contract Management, a professional certificate in Nonprofit Leadership, and I’m a AFPA Certified Holistic Nutritionist.
